Saskatchewan Leading Nation in Growth Again
Welcome to May, a beautiful and busy month in Saskatchewan. Our government would like to extend its best wishes to all those preparing for the 2025 growing season in Saskatchewan. Please work safely and know you have the full support of your government behind you.
A new provincial record has been set. Statistics Canada announced Saskatchewan remains a national leader in economic growth. Real GDP (Gross Domestic Product) data shows Saskatchewan’s 3.4 per cent growth is second among the Canadian provinces in 2024. This growth rate is well over the national average increase of 1.6 per cent. Saskatchewan's real GDP value remains at an all-time high of $80.5 billion, beating 2023's record of $77.9 billion - another fact illustrating the strength of our provincial economy.
The Investment Attraction Strategy released in 2024 is working. Private capital investment in Saskatchewan increased last year by 17.3 per cent to $14.7 billion, ranking first among all provinces in Canada. Private capital investment is projected to reach $16.2 billion in 2025, an increase of 10.1 per cent over 2024. This is the second highest anticipated percentage increase among all provinces in Canada.
Our government is extending the Oil Infrastructure Investment Program (OIIP) to expand market access for Saskatchewan oil and support the continued development of carbon dioxide (CO2) pipelines. CO2 pipelines play an important role in reducing emissions and growing enhanced oil recovery capacity. To date, over $100 million in private capital investment has been secured through OIIP, with a further $380 million associated with projects that have been conditionally approved.
Enhancing Everyday Lives
Our strong and steady provincial economy allows for initiatives which enhance the every-day lives of our people.
The Community Rink Affordability Grant program had another strong year with preliminary figures showing that 577 indoor ice surfaces across the province received funding. The program awarded grants of $2,500 per ice surface in 2024-25, which included 378 skating surfaces and 199 curling surfaces.
The first 21 new municipal police officers have been selected and are training at Saskatchewan Police College. This initiative will see 100 new municipal officers join communities all around Saskatchewan.
Starting this month, income assistance clients will be receiving higher monthly benefits. Our government is investing $11 million to increase monthly income assistance basic benefits by two per cent for Saskatchewan Income Support and Saskatchewan Assured Income for Disability clients. This is the third year in a row for increases in income assistance.
